In Seattle’s upscale Madison Park, an electrician makes a shocking discovery—a dead body above a garage. Instead of calling the police, he phones a radio station to announce he’s found missing rock icon Cory Fontaine, with a shotgun lying across his body. A suicide note is found, and police quickly classify it as a suicide, pushing the case down to patrol officers rather than homicide detectives. Months later, Sergeant Paul Barnett begins hearing strange noises diagnosed as “exploding head syndrome.” Troubled by the case, he confides in veteran officer Allison Dickson, a tough ex-Marine. Together, they revisit Fontaine’s death—especially since his glamorous wife, Kim Darling, inherited a fortune. When a suspicious overdose claims the bassist of Kim’s band, Barnett and Dickson begin to suspect there’s more than coincidence at play—possibly a hidden trail of murder behind the rock-and-roll facade.
