DEADLY ATTRACTION is the fifth novel in the Alan Stewart and Vera Deward Murder Mystery series, set in 1940โ€™s Seattle.

On his way to work, a young carpenter finds the partially nude body of a hopeful Hollywood starlet, Audrey Lockhart, near the Green Lake walking path. A recent graduate of Smith College, she stopped in Seattle on her way to L.A, for a reunion with her dying father and to visit her uncle, King County Commisioner Dan Lockhart, who had once been a police detective on Seattleโ€™s Dry Squad, under Mike Ketchum, now Seattleโ€™s Chief of Detectives. Because of the chiefโ€™s history with his former employee, once trying to fire him for corruption, private investigators Alan Stewart and Vera Deward are asked to mitigate the conflict of interest and assist police with their investigation. Stewart and Deward bring their own set of skills, a combination of old-fashioned sleuthing, hard knocks, and bruised knuckles to help solve this henious crime, which might be linked to other rapes and murders in the region. Descending into the depths of depravity, they fight their way through gambling dens, the Chinese underground, and the Seattle Waterfront, uncovering the fact that sometimes blood is thicker than water.
